CSI were contracted by Heathrow via LOR to provide the technical design, manufacture and installation including all temporary works of a large scale artwork 'Slipstream' for BAA Heathrow T2 by Richard Wilson (RA). Slipstream is an ambitious sculpture that combines our digital workflow and automated precision engineering with the sense of velocity and movement of a stunt plane. The sculpture is full the length of Terminal 2's Covered Court, twisting through the atrium and physically integrating with the architecture. At over 85ms long, weighing in excess 77 tonnes and manufactured from 300,000 individual parts, it is currently the longest permanent sculpture in Europe. The sculpture was manufactured in our factory in Hull in 23 sections, installed over 16 weeks and completed in advance of the official airport opening ceremony in summer 2014
